Antique Baluch Bag, Origin: Afghan, Circa: Early 20th Century - Here is a compelling and intriguing antique Baluch bag, woven in Afghanistan during the years surrounding the turn of the twentieth century. Characterized by a distinct and decidedly tribal composition, this antique bag is in fact an exciting and veritable cultural artifact, the details of which reveal insight into an entire way of life. This delightful antique Baluch bag from Persia features a lovely variety of traditional patterns rendered in a limited color palette. Intricate rows of opposing sawtooth running water motifs rendered in ivory and obscure black line the center of the bag while decorative strapwork borders flank the sides of the perpendicular running water motifs. The detailed border patterns include protective wolf's mouth emblems, cruciform symbols with stepped edges and minor zigzagging motifs. Bearded fringes with polychromatic accents line the sides and bottom of this quirky antique Persian Baluch bag. Double pairs of crisp white beads adorn the deep, dark tassels while creating a bold level of contrast between light and dark.
